Today's Everyday Fashion: Winter White

She looks so cozy and glamorous at the same time. My shoes are a match, but I don't have a sweater like hers so I tried a couple coats. The first coat is a harsher white to my dark navy dress so I tried again with a softer-hued ivory coat. I've always had a major thing for winter white coats - I've owned many of them over the years including puffers, wool coats and jackets. Now I just need to add an ivory sweater coat to my closet to pull off her relaxed glam look!

It really doesn't get any easier than "see an idea, copy it." I'm all about whatever is quick and will get me dressed and out the door in a flash. Today's Lauren Conrad re-creation proves that sometimes (when the stars align and you have similar items in your closet) it's really that simple!

My 5-Minute Makeup Routine

When it comes to beauty, I prefer a makeup routine that doesn't take more than 5 minutes. As a creature of habit, I usually stick to the same products without ever changing it up, dating as far back as middle school or high school. That is, until today! Nordstrom asked me to review a handful of beauty products of my choosing, and share a video of my experience. Today I'm showing you my usual routine, but for the first time ever, I'm not using drug store brands. It was wonderful to give "grown up makeup" a try. I've always said I would graduate to better brands as I got older, and now feels like the right time to consider upgrading some of the products that I love to use!

(Clockwise)
1. Clinique Moisturizing Lotion, $12.50
2. bareMinerals Waterproof Mascara, $18
3. Clinique Extreme Volume Mascara, $19.50
4. Laura Geller Concealer, $22
5. MAC Liquid Eyeliner, $20
6. bareMinerals Blush 'Vintage Peach', $20
7. bareMinerals Foundation 'Satin', free with purchase
8. MAC Cremesheen Lipstick 'Peach Blossom', $16

Free samples (not pictured):
1. Bobbi Brown Foundation
2. Tory Burch fragrance
3. Bottega Veneta fragrance

My favorite products from the video are the Laura Geller concealer, the bareMinerals blush, the Clinique Extreme Volume mascara and the MAC lipstick. I don't think I'll buy the bareMinerals mascara (the wand is too small for my liking), or the bareMinerals foundation (the thin, slippery formula may just take some getting used to). Overall this was a great experience though. Some products in my routine are definitely getting an upgrade!

Check out the video to see my entire transformation and review. What beauty brands and products do you recommend?

Today's post is brought to you by Nordstrom. I was asked to review beauty products of my choosing and all opinions presented are my own. Thanks for reading and watching!

Thank you, supermodel in an airport, for inspiring me to wear these old tie dye jeans with booties. (Said in my best Jimmy Fallon "thank you note" voice.) This outfit has so many of my favorite elements - boho fringe, a simple ivory sweater, layered delicate necklaces. I can't wait to wear this one for errands and/or lunch!

Today's Everyday Fashion: Riding Boots

Olive sweater, blue gingham, cognac riding boots
J.Crew sweater, Gap top, Michael Kors boots

Have you ever held a style belief about yourself, only to prove yourself wrong? That's the story behind these boots. I swore I could never wear riding boots. My large shoe size makes me shy about any flat shoes, and my comparatively small ankles mean boot calves are always way too big. I'm so happy how wrong I was though because these boots are awesome. I may have purchased them on a whim, but they are one of the best staples I've ever added to my closet. I wear them several times a week, they keep my feet warm and are super comfortable. I wore them with an olive sweater and blue gingham shirt for a full day of errands on Saturday. I gathered more riding boots under $200 for you guys below. If you don't have a pair in your closet yet, you might be surprised how much you wear them!

Tweed jacket, blush top, pencil skirt

6 more weeks of winter?! It only makes me more anxious for spring fashion. I don't wear a lot of pencil skirts in the winter since pants or leggings are much warmer. I'm a sucker for a monochromatic mix of neutrals though, and I've always had a thing for boucle/tweed jackets (I call them my "First lady jackets"). I'm bookmarking today's look to wear this spring!

Spring New Arrivals At HSN

HSN jacket styled two ways
HSN jacket, clutch - look #1 of 2

I’m excited to be partnering with HSN to share some fun new arrivals for spring! First up is a white faux leather motorcycle jacket from the G by Giuliana collection. The material is so soft; the quality is on par with genuine leather. At first I thought the arms were snug, but it’s part of the design, so that you can wear the sleeves scrunched up like I show in the photos above. I love having that option. This jacket is already sold out but you can shop Giuliana’s entire collection of moto jackets here

I’m also carrying my new favorite bag – a suede fringe clutch by BCBG. I’ve had “fringe purse” on my wish list for ages and I love all the great fringe options HSN has for spring! This will be the perfect piece for obtaining the boho look I love so much, with print tops and distressed denim already in my closet.

HSN jacket, shoes - styled 2 ways
White motorcycle jacket, black top, jeans

Next up is a second look with the same G by Giuliana jacket. Motorcycle jackets look great over graphic tees, with buckled boots, or tie-dye jeans. I kept it simple and added some metal accents, like these Jessica Simpson flats with gold ankle strap from HSN. The flats are super cushioned and comfy and I especially like the metallic detail and snake texture.

I’ve gathered up some more new arrivals I’m loving from HSN below, and you can shop the entire Spring Fashion Collection, The Fashion Edit, starting 2/5. Which new arrivals are your favorite?

Black coat, pink sweater, floral pants

Crazy or not, I can't get enough of these floral pants. I wore them twice already - once to a friend's birthday dinner, and once on Daytime (a recurring morning show gig). I felt dressed up and yet so incredibly comfortable, especially in the cold weather when bare legs or tights wouldn't cut it. I'm planning to try them with a black turtleneck or chambray top next!

My inspiration is proving that it's possible to look adorable even while bundled up in the freezing cold. And I'm showing how to get that look for less - aka totally free by using what you already have in your closet. I tried black jeans like hers first but it felt too flat, so I went with blue jeans. The end result feels comfy and warm and perfect for staying stylish this winter!

Today's Everyday Fashion: Spring Preview

Already excited for spring
Stella & Dot Tropicana

I'm just a tad excited for spring! I recently got these necklaces and wanted to chronicle some initial ideas for wearing them when the weather warms up. First is one of my favorite color combos - pink and purple. l love the lavender parts of this necklace and wanted to highlight them by pairing it with more lavender.

Stella & Dot Riviera

They paired this necklace with blush pink in the catalog and I was instantly sold. I tried it with an old pink dress. Even with all those ruffles, I'm a fan of layering on a gorgeous necklace like this. The leather petals come off so you can wear it with or without.

This necklace has two different lengths and you can also remove some of the white pieces to make it shorter. White necklaces work well with prints as I'm demonstrating here. I also wore this necklace in recent posts here and here

Today's Everyday Fashion: Boy Clothes

Her jeans appear to be boy jeans. And my shirt is in fact a boy shirt - my fiance gave it to me when it shrank. My jeans as pictured were fresh out of the dryer so not nearly as roomy as hers, but by the end of the day I had a nice baggy look going (they are "boyfriend" style), and the mens watch was the icing on the cake. A ladylike purse and heels balances it out and adds a little feminine appeal, but the boy elements just might be my favorite!

Chambray top, camel coat and leopard shoes - an easy combo to throw together if you've got similar pieces in your closet. I tried it two ways: in the first version, my top and jeans create a monochromatic look that most resembles my inspiration. In the second version, my jeans are a lot lighter than my shirt which provides more of a contrast. Which way do you prefer it?

This pink sweater and printed pants were part of the same J.Crew Factory order, so wearing them together was a no-brainer. I'm loving printed pants as an alternate to jeans lately, and colorful crew neck sweaters make the perfect canvas for layering necklaces.

Today's Everyday Fashion: Wide Stripes

Pea green cardigan, black peplum top, wide stripe skirt

I love her pea green cardigan combined with a glitzy necklace! I wanted to recreate it using a similar wide stripe skirt (see other ways I wore it here and here and here). I planned to tuck the top into the skirt, but when I put the peplum top on, I decided to leave it untucked - it kind of looks like a dress with a drop waist.  I love how it changes the shape of the skirt for a different take, and it's so comfortable to wear this way! Have you ever layered a peplum top over a skirt?

Inspiration: Annabel Rosendahl via WhoWhatWear

Her coat is the prettiest shade of salmon, and it looks pretty cozy. I used a blazer in a vibrant coral to create a similar look. Salmon and coral are not colors I usually associate with winter, but a quick search led to many coats in this color and I have to say I'm a fan. Why not bring a little color and get some use out of your bright blazers in the winter by mixing them with neutrals? Would you wear today's combo?

Today's Everyday Fashion: Outtakes

Leather jacket, stripe top, distressed jeans

Today I'm sharing some photos from October & November that I never posted! This first outfit contains two of my favorite items in my closet - a leather jacket from Banana 5 years ago, and a F21 top from a couple summers ago. I wound up posting this outfit using the same inspiration photo instead.

Mustard sweater, olive skirt, leopard shoes

I love this mustard, olive and leopard color combo but the fit is all wrong. This skirt was too small for me and you can see on my face how uncomfortable I felt in the photos. I returned the skirt (ordered from J.Crew Factory) but I may need to try this color combo again!

Leather jacket, graphic sweater, red plaid top

I love this inspiration outfit from Collage Vintage via Lucky Magazine. The dog graphic on mine felt a little too kitschy though, and I also like her black handbag a lot more.

Camel blazer, white tee, Sperrys

Last but not least, I like this comfy, casual look with Sperrys, white tee and a camel blazer but I'd prefer it with different jeans. I wound up wearing a similar version for running errands at one point!

Banana Republic tops from post-Christmas sales

These are the two Banana shirts from yesterday's budget post. What I love about these shirts is how easy they are to throw on with jeans, and yet they've got interesting details like the olive-colored lace and pocket tabs. I get excited for Banana's post-Christmas sale every year and while the sales weren't as great this year (I've scored stacks of $15 silk blouses in the past), I'm still very happy with these two purchases!

Today's Everyday Fashion: Budget Update

Realistic clothing budget

Banana  /  J.Crew Factory  /  Banana  /  J.Crew
Factory  /  Forever 21  /  Limited  /  Factory  /  Limited
J.Crew  /  Factory  /  Amazon  /  DSW  /  Saks Off Fifth

Here's everything I bought with my clothing budget since my last update in November!

1. Banana, $32 - I absolutely love basics that have great details. 100% silkI didn't have much luck in the after-Christmas sales in stores, so I placed an order online with a promo code.
2. J.Crew Factory, $23 - Another post-Christmas order with a promo code. The print and price sold me!
3. Banana, $27 - Ordered with #1. I love lace tops and was smitten with the unique olive color.
4. J.Crew, $30 - Several of you scored this top for $17, as they lowered the price even more since I purchased it. I love the slight boho vibe.
5. J.Crew Factory, $30 - Crewneck sweaters are the perfect pairing with statement necklaces. This hot pink color will work in any season.
6. Forever 21, $9 - I forgot to include this in last month's post. A great basic I've already worn a ton. (like here
7. Limited, $21 - I loved the peplum top in this post, but decided I'd get more use out of the black color.
8. J.Crew Factory, $11 - This tee will work both as cute pajamas and occasionally out of the house.
9. Limited, $40 - I bought this before the holiday on promo so I could wear it to a holiday party.
10. J.Crew, $60 - I love these pants so much. The intersection of bold statement and seriously comfy! Yes please!
11. J.Crew Factory, $24 - I haven't seen these in person yet but I already think I'm going to love them!
12. Amanda Uprichard/Amazon, $40 - I used the "shopping cart" method to get this 100% silk originally $234 dress for only $40. I left some items in my Amazon shopping cart for about 6 months. This one was still in stock and the price was great so I nabbed it!
13. Nine West/DSW, $25 - I found these in the clearance section before the holidays. My version of "flats"!
14. Marc Jacobs/Saks Off Fifth, $54 - Saks Off Fifth has been running a "buy 1, get 2 free" special. We found these yellow Marc Jacobs bags on a group shopping trip for $151 so we bought 3, meaning each of us only paid $54 each! Deal of a lifetime. (And so fun that we have matching bags.)

My clothing budget is $250 per month. I treat it like an allowance and at the start of each month I deposit $250 into an "account" and then spend as I go. The $453 is the remaining balance left from 2014. For more info, see "How to Set a Clothing Budget."

LOFT  /  LOFT

I also added these two items from LOFT to my closet, via an old gift card I've been carrying around for 2 years. My plan for the bottom two is to take them out of my wedding budget! What are your favorite shopping finds lately?

J.Crew Factory printed top with cardigan and jeans
Same top and sweater, worn two ways

I was deleting old pictures from my phone recently when I came across this Banana fitting room picture from 2 years ago. These were three items I randomly tried on together, but the combo wound up being kind of cute! I was instantly inspired to pair this new J.Crew Factory printed shirt with a houndstooth skirt. The fitting room outfit is a bit more harmonious - the white in the shirt ties in the skirt, and the little red accents on the jacket are adorable. I also shared a way I wore this top with jeans for errands. I love the little pom pom detail and the overall boho vibe. I think my favorite way to wear this top will be with shorts and wavy hair this summer!
